Your assemblies fit their template. Not the other way round. The way you have staged and spooled for fifteen years becomes whatever the drop-down allows.
Somebody becomes the champion. Configuring it, explaining it, keeping it current. That turns into their real job, and the operation quietly starts depending on one person.
Paper shows up beside it. Whatever it cannot do gets done the old way. Now you are running two systems and only one of them is telling the truth.
The renewal is not a negotiation. Your history is inside it. The price goes where they decide, and the roadmap serves their largest customer, who is not you.
DOOR TWO
Hire people who have never run your operation, then train them on it. You are now staffing a department that does not win you a single job.
You are hiring for a trade they have never worked. Before a line of it gets built, someone on your payroll has to teach a developer what a spool is and why the stage order matters.
The department bids nothing. Salary, benefits and overhead, carried against zero jobs won.
One person holds it up. A week off and the system waits. A better offer and it walks out of the building with them.
You own it from then on. Uptime, backups, security, the upgrade nobody wants to schedule. That is not a project with an end date. It is a payroll line.
